Founded Sumiya Drapery in Nitta, Gunma Prefecture.

1946

Opened Ota Synthetic Resin Industrial Factory in Ota, Gunma.

1948

Started manufacturing and sales of urea resin buttons.

1950

Launched "IRIS" as a brand for international sales.

1952

Introduced the first made-in-Japan injection molding machine and started the production of transparent buttons from styrene resin.

1956

Modernized equipment and started the production of luster buttons from milk casein resin.

1966

Started the production of ABS resin buttons.

1973

Founded IRIS Co. Ltd. and established its head office in Tokyo.

1986

Opened professional training college KNOPE FACHSCHULE to train specialists in buttons designing.

1987

Opened an office in Hong Kong.

1988

Opened the Button Museum.

1991 ~ 1995

Opened offices in France, Dalian, Suzhou and Taiwan.

2002

Opened an office in Shenzhen.

2007

Opened an office in New York and a factory in Bangladesh.

2009

Exhibited for the first time at Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics.

2014

Became exclusive distributor of FIDLOCK in Japan; Began exhibiting at Premiere Vision.

2017

Began exhibiting at ISPO Munich.

2020

Started collaborating with an IRIS representative office in Helsinki.

2021

Launched the GREEN BUTTON CHALLENGE IRIS 2046 initiative to promote more sustainable trims manufacturing.

Started measuring important environmental sustainability KPIs.

2022

Obtained the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certificate at Hong Kong IRIS and Katashina factory, Japan.

2023

Philippine IRIS Co. Inc. completed the self-assessment of their factory’s environmental impact and working conditions according to Higg Facility Environmental Module (FEM); Hong Kong IRIS renewd its GRS certificate.

Obtained the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) / Recycle Claim Standard (RCS) certificate at Shanghai IRIS.
